Time: 7:00 p.m. (Arizona MST)  Doors open at 6:45 p.m.
Where: Carl Hayden Visitor Center at Glen Canyon Dam, Hwy 89, Page, AZ
Description:  "Canyon Country Impressions: Readings from Redrock Almanac with photos by Tom Till" presented by Michael Engelhard
Join Michael Engelhard as he presents from his book Redrock Almanac: Vignettes of the Canyon Country. His presentation will include the photography of Tom Till.
Most people "know" the Colorado Plateau's mesas and buttes, its hoodoos, arches, corroded plains, and corkscrew gashes from Westerns, commercials, or first-hand experience. And yet: one lifetime is too short to exhaust its riches, to fully grasp every nuance of this country of deep time and little rain. Michael Engelhard offers intimate glimpses into the high desert's flora, fauna, geology, anthropology, history, landmarks, and weather.

A Book Signing will follow the presentation

Date: Thursday, December 10, 2009

Description: Christmas Bird Count Special Event - "Birds of Prey" presented by Martin Tyner, Southwest Wildlife Foundation.
Join us for a special Christmas Bird Count edition of the Glen Canyon Lecture Series as Martin Tyner of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation presents Birds of Prey, an exciting educational program. Enjoy beautiful slides of wild raptors while Master Falconer and Educator Martin Tyner teaches about these majestic birds. Identification, hunting, nesting behaviors, and the environment we share, are among the things that will be discussed. A Golden Eagle named "Scout", will be part of the presentation. A book signing will follow the lecture.

Southwest Wildlife Foundation Founded in September 1997, the Southwest Wildlife Foundation (SWF) is a non-profit public organization to provide wildlife rehabilitation and to promote wildlife education. The SWF cares for more than 50 sick, injured & orphaned native wildlife each year. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Nature Center can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing your educational Barn Owls experience when visiting the park. With its focus on wildlife and environmental education, the SWF provides approximately 100 programs, reaching over 30,000 people annually. In October 2000, Rocky Mountain Power, formerly Utah Power, donated 22.6 majestic canyon acres in Cedar City, Utah to create a permanent wildlife rescue facility and nature park. Nestled between beautiful red sandstone mountains, it sits on the transition point between the Colorado Plateau and the Great Basin. In the Spring of 2003 a paved walking and bicycle trail was built through this property with matching funds from Utah Division of Parks and Recreation and Cedar city, connecting the 23 acre nature park area to the city's existing trail system.

Admission is free.  The Glen Canyon Lecture Series is sponsored by Glen Canyon Natural History Association, Powell Museum, and Page Public Library and provided as a service to the community and the visitors to Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Rainbow Bridge National Monument, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and Glen Canyon Dam/Lake Powell.

Due to security at Carl Hayden Visitor Center, no bags, purses, or pocket knives are allowed - you can bring cameras, wallets, etc.
