POSITION: Recreation Supervisor

Coordinates major recreational programs, special events and activities for the residents of the city, visitors and guests. Responsible for coordination of adult and youth sports leagues, city wide special events, after school and recreation programs; to promote activities; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility. Responsible for management of all recreation facilities in order to provide clean and safe opportunities for sport and recreation and promote a healthy lifestyle for all community residents.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.


Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree Recreation, Leisure Services, Facility Management, Public Administration, or a related field. Considerable (2 or more years) experience in professional level year round recreation work, including programming and coordinating recreational activities, or experience in parks, recreation, or sports facility management and operations.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of principles and practices of recreation, cultural, social and leisure service program development.

Experience in budget development, procedures and administration. Extensive knowledge of techniques of organizing and direction recreation and leisure service programs and extensive knowledge of facilities and equipment needed in broad recreational programs .Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in Business English. Basic training in work place and employee safety procedures. Ability to operate a standard passenger vehicle and occasionally four wheel drive light trucks for field activities. Establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees and other departments. Ability to use listed tools and equipment .Must be able to follow standard office environment safety requirements. Computer skills for data collection and analyzing, word processing and preparation of reports and programs. Be familiar with legislation, policies, procedures and rules about sport, recreation and cultural activities, events, and competition.

Officers identify criminal offenders and criminal activity and where appropriate, apprehend offenders and participate in subsequent proceedings. Identify and reduce the opportunities for the commission of crime through preventative patrol and other measures (including but not limited to community crime prevention and community policing) and facilitate the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Aid individuals who are in danger of physical harm, create and maintain a feeling of security in the community.
