DUTY DESCRIPTION

The Police Chief provides administrative direction for the Police Department functions, operations, and personnel through supervision of subordinate staff and review of their activities. Responsibilities include formulating policies and regulations governing activities, and preparing or directing their preparation of proposals concerning department activities for consideration by the City Manager. Work involves the selection, training, assignment, and discipline of all departmental personnel. Administrative duties include the: directing the preparation of annual budget estimates and controlling the expenditures of departmental appropriations; developing short and long range plans and objectives to improve department services; directing training to increase department efficiency and prepare employees for advancement; and coordinating department activities with those of other City departments and law enforcement agencies. The incumbent serves as the primary City authority on matters pertaining to department programs and law enforcement, and speaks before public groups on the plans, programs and goals of the Police Department. This class performs other related duties as required or assigned.

DUTY QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public or Business Administration, or a related field.  Ten plus years of progressively responsible management experience in law enforcement.

POSITION:           Children’s Library Coordinator

DUTY DESCRIPTION
This position will be responsible for year-round children’s library programs and activities relating to them. Under general guidance assesses, selects, processes, and catalogs library materials suitable for children.  Provides reference services to children and teachers.  Also responsible for checking in and out materials in the Children’s Library when on duty.  Will have heavy public contact working with children and their parents.  Handles technical work involving the circulation desk in the Children’s area.

DUTY QUALIFICATIONS
1-2 years of previous experience in working with children in a school or library setting. Experience working with bibliographies of children’s literature. Every 2 years of college may be substituted for 1 year  of experience. Knowledge of child development and children’s library programs, services, techniques and principles. Skilled in office procedures. Typing skills of at least 45 wpm. Ability to interact with children and parents courteously and effectively. Computer knowledge of Solutions Library Circulation System, including the PAC’s.  Possesses very good writing skills and verbal communication ability. Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with patrons and with all employees in the organization. Ability to use listed tools and equipment. Ability to follow standard office environment safety requirements. Possesses creative storytelling skills and knowledge of children’s books and literature.

DUTY DESCRIPTION


Performs a variety of responsible clerical and support activities in the daily operation of the circulation desk.  This position has a high degree of public contact and is primarily responsible for checking material in and out and assists in training Part Time Circulation Assistant I and Part Time Library Aide positions.

1-3 years of previous clerical/library experience (office and cataloging) with 2 years of prior library experience required. College may be substituted at 2 years for 1 year experience. Any combination of experience and training predicting the ability to successfully fulfill the required knowledge. Knowledge of library organization, facilities, services, methods and policies is important. Proficient knowledge of office procedures.Typing skills of at least 45 wpm. Ability to interact with library patrons courteously and effectively is vital.Adaptability to varying atmosphere day by day. Must have computer knowledge of solutions library circulation system, including the “OPAC's”.  Alternative programs may be considered. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with. Ability to interact with co-workers and establish effective working relationships.  Ability to use listed tools and equipment.

Assists in planning, organizing and coordinating a community recreation program for youth and adults, including physical activities, special interest classes and possibly summer programs.  Provides clerical and secretarial services for Recreation Department.  Must be a 24- hour role model for youth.

DUTY DESCRIPTION:

Officers identify criminal offenders and criminal activity and where appropriate, apprehend offenders and participate in subsequent proceedings. Identify and reduce the opportunities for the commission of crime through preventative patrol and other measures (including but not limited to community crime prevention and community policing) and facilitate the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Aid individuals who are in danger of physical harm, create and maintain a feeling of security in the community.
